her Litter Project Team Annamarie
Darmody has been working very hard at her Litter Management Project. Thje aim of the
project is to develop and foster a greater understanding of the environment. Children are
encouraged to recycle their used sweet wrappers, bottles etc.
We have an aluminium can recycling project in the
school where children are encouraged to bring in their used cans from home. We then have
them collected from the school. Money raised from the project goes to needy charities. The
project is supported by Clare County Council, Clare UDC and Shannon Development.
Unfortunately, litter management, disposal etc. is a
growing problem in Ireland. Landfill sites can barely cope with the amount of domestic and
industrial rubbish currently being produced and while there are many recycling initiatives
in place, we fall far short of many of our European neighbours when it comes to recycling.
Pictured below kickstarting the project are
representatives from the Environment section of Clare County Council with Annamarie and
the children.
